NZ Unemployment rate rises to 7.3%, worse than expected; NZ$ falls
http://www.interest.co.nz/ratesblog/index.php/2010/02/04/unemployment-ra...

Quote:
New Zealand’s unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 7.3% in the December quarter from 6.5% in September, as more people entered the job market but could not find work, Statistics New Zealand said.

I wonder whether the unemployment figures for NZ have had a similar "methodology" change to that seen in the US.
ie are they fiddled?

I would suspect so:

There is no way the current unemployment figure stats can be even closely compare to the peaks of the 1990s….
The whole basis of the 2 stats are based on completely different parameters
If any Statistician, media commentator or economist was really worth their salt, the would get off the bums and adjust todays methods back to the 1990s and visa versa as best they can …THEN come up with something that can and mean something that is realistic.

Till then any comparison is just political and media BS.
and any discussion is pointless.

I thought something NZ specific had just happened as the NZ$ started dropping quite quickly.

So far NZ$JPY down from about 64.6 to 63.39, about 1.9%.

And the NZ$US$ is down from about 0.71 to 0.6969.
